The series starts with Friday’s 11:30 a.m. opener, followed by 10 a.m. games Saturday and Sunday. All three games will be broadcast live on ESPN AM 1420.
The Rainbow Warriors (19-28, 3-15 Big West Conference) are coming off a three-game losing sweep at home to Long Beach State, the third straight Big West team to sweep UH at Les Murakami Stadium.
Hawaii again failed to capitalize on the strong pitching of starters Matt Cooper and Jarrett Arakawa. Cooper went eight innings in the series opener against Long Beach State, allowing only two runs on four hits and one walk with six strikeouts. But the Dirtbags won, 3-1, after UH relievers Scott Squier and Juliene Jones combined for three walks in the top of the ninth inning — two with the bases loaded after the inning started tied at 1-all.
Arakawa, nursing an injured left (throwing) shoulder, scattered six hits over 5 1/3 innings Sunday, allowing only one run with four strikeouts and no walks before leaving in the top of the sixth inning with the score tied at 1-all. But Squier allowed two runs on one hit and three walks plus a wild pitch in relief, and Long Beach State won again, 3-1.
Adam Hurley leads the Rainbow Warriors with a .323 batting average, Kaeo Aliviado is second at .302 and Marc Flores is hitting .290 with five home runs and 39 runs batted in.
UC Davis (21-27, 5-13 Big West) is coming off a 5-2 victory at Sacramento State on Tuesday.
LIILII NAMED FIRST TEAM ALL-BIG WEST: UH junior first baseman Leisha Liiilii repeated as an All-Big West First Team selection, the school announced Tuesday.
Liilii batted .401 (third in the Big West) and led the Rainbow Wahine in hits (55), home runs (15), RBIs (39) and walks (34). She also led the team in multihit games with 15, had the team’s longest hitting streak at 15 games and reached base safely in all 30 conference games.
Shortstop Sarina Jamarillo was named to the All-Conference second team and All-Freshman Team after batting .264 with 15 runs, three home runs and 17 RBIs.
Senior second baseman Jazmine Zamora earned Honorable Mention after batting .295 with four home runs.
The Rainbow Wahine went 22-28 and 7-14 in the Big West.
